Team Newsletter

Group 2 - Teachers 2.0

Jetson School of Imagination

The nice thing about this project is it was a real collaborative effort, we worked on the front page together and then had a chance to create our own pages. So we worked as a team and also had the chance to express ourselves. This worked well because we communicated a clear and distinct feeling about the design, pictures, videos and text. It went quit easy. A benefit to using technology is that we were able to meet out side of school time, we arranged evening meets that allow us to work, be with our families and get the work done. If we had t meet face to face time would have been a bigger issue.

I think parents appreciate this type of feedback and informative newsletter. Me and my wife always check up on my daughters class through the newsletters, emails and class website. Since time is so important to everyone, using technology that allows you to find what you need on your own time is great. We used Letter Pop because I was already familiar with it and liked its overall use. After working with my team members for four weeks, I would say we kept improving each week, group members were very out going and took initiative to getting things done. It was a pleasure working with such a nice group of future colleagues. Next time around I would use a different Newsletter site to get a perspective on the capabilities of different site.

A is for Apple

We have discuss in most of my classes the dangers in teaching to the test and not fully allowing the students to express themselves in a unique learning environment. We are not looking to prepare students to take test all their lives but to be a productive solution to societies needs. The video is making a good point, but I feel it did not present it self that strongly.

E - Portfolio

This is my favorite saying out of the E-portfolio slides. The idea that we can teach and support lifelong learning with both breath and depth is I feel the true goal of teaching. Just like the old saying," If I give you a fish I feed you for today, but if I teach you how to fish I feed you for a life time. Portfolio's in the cloud bring more than information, it brings in your experiences in life and helps to keep a orderly record of your experiences.

WOW - Innovative Uses of Smart Boards

I specifically pick the Smart Board because of me lack of knowledge about the use and technology. I discovered very easy sites with tutorial, examples and videos about smart board and smart tables. I would love to have a smart table in the house for my family. I saw on a news update on the future of technology that coffee tables, diner tables and even wall space would become a interactive smart surface. Instead of the family meeting around the dinner talk to talk about the days events or plan family activities. The future is we are using our dinner table as an active smart board, email, reviewing school work, bills or watching TV. Technology will consume us in the near future. So it is time to trade in the horse and wagon for the new technology. I like my presentation I think it gives a glimpse into the future of the 21st Century classroom and how the use of interactive white boards will be as common as calculators in physics. I plan on blending the use of the smart board and or interactive white board into the discovery and inquiry portions of my Science class. It is a real asset to be able to create files and use the internet for information.

EDUCATION WORLD'S COPYRIGHT SERIES

If you properly quote and/or credit a work's author, experts say, you cannot be accused of plagiarism, but you may still be accused of copyright infringement. I felt that this quote from the reading was very intriguing. So even if you give the author credit for the work you still could theoretically be sued. I always thought if you did use others information to make a profit you where not infringing on there copyright, but after reading the articles below I have changed my thoughts on Copyrights.

Inspiration Mind Mapping of Charles Darwin's Journey

I created this using the inspiration web site. What I liked about this software was how easy it was to use the hyperlinks, extend the mapping and add pictures. I first tried mindmeister but it became confusing after about 45 minutes of trying. The other sites also looked very elaborate, I settled on the Inspiration software because of its user friendly applications. The one downside is that it is not interactive with others unless they also have the software downloaded on the computer, but time is money and teacher need to use programs that get the results they want and need in a fairly reasonable time frame. I am sure if i spend more time with the other sites I would be able to cut down on the confusion and save time, but I did like the way this program worked and would be inclined to use it in the future.
