Beyond the Bubble Test: How Will We Measure Learning in the Future?
I like the idea of moving beyond bubble testing. Computer based testing with become easier to create and grade, but the problem is not the testing but what the testing is being used for. There is no guarantee that computer based testing will be the answer to improving the ability of students to learn, focus and perform at a higher level. If the new testing uses Rubric evaluation, then teacher bias can screw results. If the government is still holding results over the teachers heads, how will that prevent what happened in Atlanta with the teaching scandal. Is this process just another way to create favorable results on paper but not in the classroom. Does the responsibility begin with the Educational Dept, the district, the teacher or the student?
I agree Pat that if they decide to use rubrics to score these tests done with technology that it can be biased. I also think you have a great question as to who's responsibility it is to decide what tests to use, how to grade them and what do we do with them?
